Drummer - Percussionist - Ritmista
Tuca is a Brazilian drummer and percussionist based in London.
Starting tap dance at fourteen years old, drumkit at fifteen and percussion shortly afterwards, Tuca has an endless fascination with rhythm. She studied Brazilian Rhythms at ULM Universidade Livre de Musica Tom Jobim,
São Paulo (1997 – 1999) and Popular Percussion at ECA University of Sao Paulo (2000 – 2003).
She also trained percussion with Master Airto Moreira and Simone Soul.
Living In London since 2008, Tuca has worked with many artists: Anais, Baque Luar, Biram Seck, Dj Tudo e sua gente de todo lugar, Fae Simon, Funmilayo, Jandira Silva, Louise Golbey, LyricL, Maracatudo Mafua, Michele Drees, Namvula Rennie, Nina Miranda, Nomadic Souls (Popping, Locking dance group), Pe de Jurema, Raf Vilar, Samba Soul Transatlantico, Sarah Fonteyne, Shelley Nicole, Vaitea, Voodoo Love Orchestra, Yarah Bravo, Zeep and so.
She currently plays percussion with Mo Pleasure (Multi-Instrumentalist, Performer, Writer & Producer: Ray Charles, Earth, Wind & Fire - as Musical Director, Michael Jackson - “This Is It” tour, Bette Midler, Average White Band, Christina Aguilera, Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, Michael McDonald, Natalie Cole, Nile Rodgers, Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder).
She also plays percussion with Ivy Chanel and is working as a session musician and workshop leader - In collaboration with Lizzie Ogle, she runs percussion & vocal collective Baque Luar, at Kings College, London.
Let Drum Beat, Tuca’s own project, is an all-female band combining original composition with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Having recorded in Brazil in 2018, Let Drum Beat will launch their debut album in 2019.
